Nocturnal Detective[edit | edit source]

Head of the only agency in Kanai Ward, the Nocturnal Detective Agency. An aloof and elusive man. Although not a Master Detective, he is certified by the World Detective Organization. That said, he is somewhat weak-kneed, and his agency's policy is to stay quiet and refrain from any overt behavior that might lead to conflict with the Amaterasu Corporation Peacekeepers.

In The Final Rumble[edit | edit source]

TFR/Season 8[edit | edit source]

The chief (and sole) detective of the Nocturnal Detective Agency, working around Sindria to solve mysteries for the oppressed townsfolk.

Episode 10

Upon awakening, Kasuga Ichiban can't believe the game over screen is so... furnished. He's greeted by the voice of a man who sounds like he's been eagerly awaiting his (and his friend's) awakening. At first, Ichiban can't believe him and Harry actually made it, although the man can't say being found in a shore nearby exactly counts. The man introduces himself as Yakou Furio, born and raised in Sindria, who found them passed out and dragged them into his submarine, the office of his Nocturnal Detective Agency. At first awe-struck, Yakou disappoints him as the submarine is not fully operational, and won't get anywhere, but it's not like people come around the area anyway. After apologizing for the delay, Kasuga Ichiban introduces himself and Harry... Potter? he can't recall his last name. Yakou thinks it's just a matter of waiting, but Ichiban has to mention it's a long story but he won't be waking up to clear it either, how they got here is also a long story, so he begins talking away from the start at his STC job... Yakou's surprised at the crazy story and Ichiban's loyalty of even fighting a shark, but it's especially made him curious about a possible conspiracy surrounding King Sinbad. He'd love to hear more, but he has to go to work. Ichiban is intrigued about him catching the bad guys, but Yakou says that's mostly the Peacekeepers' work and he doesn't do anything that glamorous, rather common infidelity and missing cats cases. Actually, he mentions he's got a pretty hot lead about a client's cat, so Ichiban insists to tag along–he has to grind sidequests–and Yakou decides to leave a note for his friend.

Since his job requires him to be all over the place, Yakou makes for an excellent guide to the new arrival. Just then, Yakou spots the cat, next to a man who Ichiban mistakes for the owner, but Yakou quickly points it false and wonders if he's trying to steal it. The man, Freddy Francesco, hearing their conversation, proclaims it looks like a stray, and since it's of rare breed, rightfully belongs to the Sindrian elite. Ichiban can't tell anything special about it at first glance, but the cat, Toro, speaks up to call him rude. Francesco continues speaking, saying the cat used to rent one of his aparts but was evicted for never paying rent (Toro claims he was going to), and will make his money back by selling him to one of his friends who's searching for a brand mascot. Since he finds a cat renting an apartment hard to believe (Toro claims that part is true), Ichiban tells him to drop the act, but Francesco is enraged and proclaims he could easily ruin his life with how rich he is, yet since Ichiban isn't taking the threats, decides he will demonstrate the power money brings by breaking his neck himself. Seeing Ichiban ready for a fight, Yakou takes a step back and tells him he's cheering him on while being quite agitated, but before that, Ichiban takes a quick half-hour detour at the barbershop at the end of the street to get his prison look fixed. Francesco is outraged at being made to wait, since time is money and he's getting close to buying a second PS3 game!

With his iconic main character look restored, the hero is back! Francesco is completely seething after waiting one entire Naughty Dog loading screen, and jumps at Ichiban! Sadly, Ichiban isn't up to par after his whole ordeal and class reset, so Francesco proudly proclaims a pleb never had a chance (he's rich, after all). But before he can grab the cat, Yakou reveals he used the time to return the cat to his owner. Humiliated, Francesco swears on his very rich and powerful friends that they'll regret this and leaves. After something like that, Ichiban is amazed at Yakou not fighting by his side due to planning that all along, and the latter nervously plays it off. For payment... Yakou didn't get much, but the client is willing to give him a 20% discount on training if he finds another 101 cats... a detective has to take what it can. Heading back to the submarine, they are assaulted by a terrible smell... Harry vomiting all over the place...again. A strange woman is annoyed at this happening, wondering where anyone has been this entire time as this man keeps choking on his own vomit. With no time to spare, the three help and clean up, only then Ichiban remembering to ask who she is. The girl introduces herself as Kamikura Waka, nervously asking if she actually got the right place, since she has business with Yakou: all other detectives turned her down, and the last one directed her here, because her friend's gone missing. Intrigued, Yakou asks her to explain further...

Episode 11[edit | edit source]

Yakou returns to the agency, having taken a tad long on his store run since he met a former client on the way, only to find Ichiban desperately crying and Waka trying to console him. At first fearing the worst for Harry, Waka apologizes for showing him how to use YouTube on his phone, as Ichiban cries about "Dark Speakerman" and "Plungerman" being gone because of the "Chief Scientist"... either way, Yakou brought some medicine that might help Harry, and Ichiban believes he's doing a little better now, and although Yakou can't really see it, what matters is they're trying their best.

Back when they first met, Waka recounted her situation: there was this friend of hers, real fun to be around and smart to boot, she was the brains and Waka the brawn; everything they did together was guaranteed a fun time. Then her grandaddy passed and she stopped being herself even thought she put a brave face near Waka; she could feel something was wrong, but even though she thought she knew her inside n' out, in a blink she was gone to "find an answer". Ichiban was devastated to hear that, but he wasn't any good consoling kids so he asked for Yakou's help, which he claimed he was "quite hip at"; he understands how she feels, having been in his fair share of similar situations, and puts it this way: "If only you skibidi the gyatt ohio fanum tax like a rizzler you finna be a sigma when the backroom griddy is uncanny!"... what?

(And that's how Ichiban was decided to find out what Skibidi meant, but wasn't at all ready for the answer...) After thinking of her case, Yakou believes a friend who's usually got good info on missing people might help them, a certain bartender (which reminds Ichiban of someone). Waka asks to tag along, and although Yakou prepares to say something, Ichiban instantly accepts, so he just goes along with it. They arrive to the Revolve Bar, where Yakou greets The Bartender since he hasn't "been in a while", although he remembers seeing him just a few days ago... either way he welcomes him and his company, who Yakou promptly introduces. Despite not bringing any money for drinks, Yakou came to ask the usual, and The Bartender can't complain since his two new customers make up for it. The detective explains they came looking for Waka's friend who mysteriously vanished, said to be last seen wandering into a restricted area in Sindria. The Bartender's expression suddenly grows somber, and after a moment, replies that he can't help with that since he's "just a humble bartender"; Waka becomes emotional and begs, but Yakou stops her and asks to leave it to him, as he wonders why The Bartender would react like that and if it's his mistake, but The Bartender says above all else Yakou had his trust since he first stopped by. Instead, things are currently too dangerous for what he's asking, and he can't even trust his new friends yet; he's gotten burned in the past already and would rather not repeat it.

Even thought he's a wanted criminal, Ichiban doesn't think there's any danger lurking near able to recognize him now that he's got his new haircut—and is quickly interrupted when Mike Pun Master breaks into the bar asking for the runaway Kasuga Ichiban who is in a pickle now, because he's not only dead but the boss wants a front-row seat... he's about to be "axed" from the game. On the other end of a phonecall is Escharum, who adds another crime to his sentence for his awful haircut, and announces once his men are done, he'll wish he had given up sooner, because as the new ruler of Sindria he—BANG!—a bullet passes cleanly through the phone screen, as Mike feels he's having a "dis-connect" with this situation since the phone was "charge-ing" a lot of money from his down payments still—...after the gun points at him, he gets the message since he doesn't want to be "hung up" on this conversation, but swears they'll be "ringing" Kasuga Ichiban up again soon. The Bartender holsters his gun again while saying that activity that could break bottles goes outside, as Yakou and Waka praise him. Ichiban even wonders if he's a "New Game+ secret boss", but he claims a business owner ought to learn to defend his stuff... with that out of the way and the recent exchange, he asks them to take a seat and get to know each other better since he's interested now.

Ichiban is pumped to strengthen his "drink links" and Waka as well, but Ichiban calls her out for being too young to drink—how he knows? she knew how to use a phone! With no underage drinking under his watch, Yakou gets her a glass of water (although she wanted a soda). By the way, Ichiban mentions the guy he fought, Freddy...Fazbear? he swears during the match he felt something holding up to him which didn't allow him to get in... Yakou says he won't think less of him and doesn't need to make excuses, but Ichiban swears there was something odd in there! After hearing that someone beat Kasuga up, Waka asks him to call if he ever needs help with bullies, which reminds Ichiban to register her and Harry as poundmates (hopefully for a low fee). The Bartender is surprised Yakou got so many friends now and asks him to bring Harry too next time for good measure, but Ichiban mentions Harry "isn't well" so he's at Yakou's place (and it's probably better if he doesn't drink for a while), he's been through a lot and Ichiban has no idea how to contact his family anyways. For not being able to help with Ms. Kamikura's case, The Bartender offers to help in this one, but Yakou interrupts to remind Ichiban on his original request. Now that he's refreshed on it, Ichiban decides to instead ask first about King Sinbad; he probably knows already he's missing, but as both his boss and personal friend (Waka being surprised since she saw him on TV often and her parents are big fans), Ichiban wants to find him. Indeed, The Bartender affirms STC announced he was taking an extended medical leave and it would be operating on interim leadership, but now he finally gets the gist of it, the face on that phone from earlier too, concluding that Ichiban is hunted by the Peacekeepers, the one on the phone being new director after the old one retired under unknown circumstances. Continuing, The Bartender explains Escharum wasn't anything special as a subordinate of the King, but something must have emboldened him to rebel. He's himself not local, but as a bar owner he heard from them (and read the king's books): the King is well respected, but it's an open secret that his practices aren't as clean as he's held up to be; there's no way someone would've been able to reform this godforsaken place in just a few years otherwise. He's specially known for his miraculous business acumen, like he knows just what the market wants, and thanks to that, STC has grown in abumdance. He would take over any rival company that had products he was interested in, and would attempt to monopolize whatever he could, so he earned many enemies. Ichiban thinks he's gained enough from this to get the gist of it, but The Bartender signals there's more questionable things to go over. The Peacekeepers themselves were initially a security company whose role was to protect the interests of the STC, but they grew in numbers and became what you could call a blatant paramilitary group. Ichiban did hear from Warden Osborne they were like cops and Harry was one of them, but The Bartender remarks the Peacekeepers are still very much a private entity unlike cops.

Yakou suddenly halts Ichiban since he said Harry is a Peacekeeper, prompting Ichiban to recall his full name as Harrier du Bois, which leaves Yakou completely paralyzed and The Bartender in cold nerve. Ichiban tells them to calm down since he can't be that weird (except for the vomit), but Yakou lashes out that he should know better since he's one of Sinbad's subordinates. The Bartender obliges that Du Bois has quite the infamous reputation around; while most of what the STC did was recognized as "ends justify the means" deal, Harrier was never the most pleasant guy to be around, even before his drinking problems. In order to clean this place up, King Sinbad had to make use of some pretty drastic measures, and "Harry" was one of his most feared. Yakou diverts into his business not being exactly "official"; he operates in the slums and takes an odd request or two once in a while, which is how businesses used to be back in the day, informal and pretty much outside of the law. Harry was the one responsible for near-singlehandedly cracking all of those small commerces open and brutally making an example out of them. That does sound terrifyingly hardcore to Ichiban since all he knows him for is sleeping and mumbling (and vomiting, adds Waka), but he still hopes hey can reason with him once he's capable of it (he'll even rank up his CHA for it), which Yakou begrudgingly agrees since he's technically not with the Peacekeepers anymore. Besides, Osborne trusted him a lot, so Ichiban has to as well. The Bartender chuckles after hearing of Osborne, remarking it sounds like he trusts him a lot, but still warns them to tread carefully, and to not wander into a restricted area under any circumstance, which Yakou, fearfully, definitely promises to abide with.

Meanwhile, back in the agency... an unexpected subversive visit...

Episode 12

...Harry was gone. Yakou wasn't able to find him anywhere, chastising himself over not being careful enough. Ichiban asks if he left of his own volition, and Yakou argues it must be, so Ichiban is... joyful to hear that! He likens it to helping a wounded animal, and although it's sad he left, he's glad they did their job correctly.

Since Harry's disappearance, Ichiban spends the following 3 months searching for him, and on his way comes across all kind of characters across Sindria... and he's gotta help them on their sidequests.

Lost for a moment thinking back on the day Harry left, Yakou and Waka call Ichiban back to reality to continue helping moving stuff into the sub. Yakou wasn't able to find nothing but dead-end crumbs of info on her friend, and he apologizes for asking her favors like these nonetheless, but Waka appreciates it makes her less anxious instead of waiting powerlessly. Suddenly, Waka drops the bag she's carrying, and says she hasn't been feeling well with headaches; she'd take a nap but she has already slept too much lately, and thinks it's probably time to check up at the hospital, which Yakou agrees with. Waka heads home for the day, and Yakou & Ichiban think that they have the opposite problem and haven't had enough sleep lately, so they also call it a day early.

In the night, Ichiban hears a loud metallic BOOM, wondering if it was just a dream... and then a second, louder BOOM shakes the entire submarine! It wasn't just a dream, as Yakou notices the sub is SINKING. They struggle to get the door open, but manage to get out just in time to not drown. Outside, awaiting for them is Freddy "Fazbear", who says after they messed with the wrong people, now he's become rich enough to buy ONE PS5, TWO games, and THEIR DEMISE! Especially, because the two games he bought forged him a powerful alliance: Nathan Drake & Kratos are there to make sure their vision of a world with only the cream of the crop can afford the PS6. As Sony will be the only left standing, Francesco adds it will create temptation in the lower classes, and be forced to accept their expensive loan plans.

Yakou is completely distraught. They took everything from him... his submarine... his agency and HOME... over that? But Ichiban shouts the two most important things still remain: his life, and his friends, and as long as those are in place, one can bounce from rock-bottom... and he's here to catch him on the way. On the distance, Ichiban spots Waka, who says she suddenly caught herself wandering during the night for some reason, and the loud explosion shook her awake so she came runnin'. If he's done, Francesco says annoyed, then it's time to take them out.

Impossible... he's rich... so how could Francesco lose twice? Ichiban says money can't buy friends that give their all to fight for each other, but Francesco shouts it's ALL LIES! But... luckily the Sindrian Peacekeepers are coming, so Francesco and his crew pulls out. Yakou looks back longingly at his destroyed submarine, as Ichiban promises him they'll bring it all back—the Peacekeepers arrive, and tell them to put their hands up, get on their knees... and hold this phone. Three months... that's how long Escharum has been for this moment, to see them on their kneels, at his mercy. Ichiban calls out his name, but Escharum tells them to keep their mouths shut like the dogs they are, and a Peacekeeper hits the foul-mouthed Waka. Glad to see how things are going, sadly Escharum can't watch them grovel in person because he has things to attend to, but they'll be of great help to "them" where they are going soon. Without further ado, Escharum leaves them in the hands of their old "friend"—all Peacekeepers instinctively straighten in respect to their boss, awaiting for his orders.

Harrier Du Bois
They're all under arrest...
Send them to THAT place...

Episode 13

Ichiban and Yakou awaken chained in a cave, and next to them are Billy Coen and Saejima Taiga. They say this dungeon is a "supermax prison" of sorts where they got sent after their latest prison escape, and heard few men who are in this dungeon live to tell the tale. After those "encouraging words", Yakou notices Waka is not with them and asks about it, but Saejima says they're the only ones there. Just as Ichiban wonder what they're going to do, Coen warns that they are coming, as Harrier Du Bois and a figure standing in the darkness arrive. Ichiban pleads with Harry to remember his friends, but he remains silent, as the dark figure comments it's completely useless. After hearing him, Ichiban soon recognizes his voice from way back... "The Dragonlord". Back then, Kaiba explains, Ichiban and his friends caused him great trouble and brought KaibaCorp to ruin, so it's about time he paid them back. As for Du Bois, talking to what's barely a man anymore will net him no response, as all that's left in this empty husk is the perfect guard dog; every technique deeply ingrained, there's no need for him to operate on a sound mind when his only purpose is pain infliction. If he doesn't want to become his next target, Kaiba asks for King Sinbad's whereabouts, but Ichiban refuses even if he knew to sell his friend. In that case, Kaiba tells Du Bois to bring "it" in... Yakou thinks it's an ordinary chair, and since Ichiban sees Harry removing his chain (not the cuffs) he thinks he's finally glad he could count on him, but then he forces him to sit down on the chair—and the screaming starts. Saejima and Coen solemnly admire his willpower for not talking despite the excruciating pain. As Ichiban continues murmuring that he won't talk between screaming, Kaiba calls it for today; he can't allow him to die, so they'll change their approach. He has a few calls to make, so he tells Du Bois to keep watch.

Yakou sorrowfully helps Ichiban up, and just then a nyaggering voice reverberates through the empty dungeon, leading another cheerful voice to their direction: for once, Ichiban remembered Arcueid's name as he sees her arrive. As it turns out, Toro sniffed the way here after they heard what happened, and they easily distracted the guards at the entrance. Arcueid is a bit confused about the guy staring daggers at her... Ichiban mentions he's their friend, but Yakou shouts to not let her guard down as it's one of the Peacekeepers, and suddenly he attacks!

It was tough, but she defeated him, and meanwhile Toro is done undoing their binds. They really saved their asses (especially Ichiban's since he couldn't have taken more of that chair), and he profusely thanks Armsrace, although Yakou has to help him since he's in no condition to walk, let alone fight. However, across ragged breaths, Ichiban still wants to help Harry in any way he can, but Arcueid stops him since he's in no shape to carry anyone and they'll figure it out later, and Yakou reminds him there's no time and they have to leave before he wakes up for "phase 2". Yakou points out he's lucky to have a stubborn crew like them, but Ichiban notices something in Harry's hand, and Yakou decides to take the strange ledger. Du Bois begins waking up, and Coen points out he's a freakin' monster, so Saejima tells him he knows what that means; someone's gotta hold him off, or none of them will get out alive. Ichiban says they can't do this again, Saejima shuts him up that in his current state he'll just die, and Coen adds once it's all over they'll just turn themselves in, tie some loose ends and focus on getting out. Ichiban doesn't know what to say, so Saejima tells him to not say anything and just keep living to fix this whole mess. Arcueid wishes them good luck, and Yakou hopes they can meet again under better circumstances. The alarm starts blaring, and Ichiban's group leaves... now that they are in the clear, Saejima asks Coen if he's ready, which he naturally is; time to go balls out.
