Later, she suffered the loss of her father who disappeared in Cambodia, and decides to do mercenary work fo a while, being contacted by a woman named Natla to obtain the mythical artifact Scion. Along the way she discovers a triumvirate of ancient kings who sentenced the third one to a thousand years trapped in a crystal prison for trying to use the army of Atlantis to destroy the world, who is revealed to be Natla. Lara stops her plan, and later manages to assemble the mystical sword Excalibur, who she realizes is the cause her mother disappeared into Avalon. She embarks on a journey to find Avalon, and finds she needs Thor's Hammer to enter, and Thor's gaunglets and belt to wield it. After finding all the artifacts, she enters Avalon and discovers her mother has been turned into a Thrall, and that Natla killed her father and plans to use the Avalon doomsday device. Lara stops her and escapes through the portal that once doomed her mother.
