Jill Sandwich[edit | edit source]

An elite agent respected for her commitment in eradicating bioterrorism and her survival amid to the biohazardous outbreaks in Arklay County in 1998.

Valentine's father was French, and her mother was of Japanese descent. In the 1990s, Valentine served in the US Army and got the attention of recruiters for Delta Force, a counter-terrorism unit. Although it did not employ women, she took part in the six-month Operator Training Course, where she excelled in bomb disposal & lock-picking. During her time in the Army, she met Forest Speyer. She left the military in pursuit of experiences that made her feel alive, as well as to assuage her sense of justice. In 1996, Valentine was recruited by Albert Wesker for S.T.A.R.S., an elite unit of Raccoon Police Department that relied on military veterans and weapons-trained scientists. Keeping her training and personal life a secret, she made friends with S.T.A.R.S. members including Chris Redfield, with whom she developed a close friendship, and whom she often demanded to be trained in marksmanship. Valentine became Wesker's Alpha Team's B&E specialist, positioned at the rear in maneuvers with helicopter pilot Brad Vickers.

In 1998, Raccoon City was haunted by the deaths of a number of hikers, involving both vicious dog attacks and group cannibalism. With the RPD at a loss, S.T.A.R.S. was ordered into the Arklay Mountains. Bravo Team was sent out on the night of 23 July, and contact was subsequently lost. The following day, the Alpha Team was sent out to investigate. The helicopter being found derelict and its pilot, Kevin Dooley, dead and mutilated, Alpha Team was confronted by a pack of dogs, who then killed Joseph Frost. Valentine, along with Wesker, Chris Redfield and Barry Burton, fled into a nearby mansion, while Vickers, in shock, fled to the helicopter and abandoned the team. Within the mansion, the four-man team split up to explore. Over the course of the night, they independently deduced that the mansion was a cover for a bio-weapons research laboratory under the control of Umbrella U.S.A., S.T.A.R.S.' biggest donor. Valentine began to suspect Burton was working against the team, but later discovered Wesker had manipulated Burton. With Wesker faking his death when activating a renegade bio-weapon-designated "Tyrant", Valentine, Redfield, Burton and Bravo Team's Rebecca Chambers escaped the lab before its destruction on Vickers' helicopter.

Once back in Raccoon City, S.T.A.R.S.'s request for a full-scale investigation of Umbrella was denied by Chief of Police Brian Irons. With no support from the American government either, Redfield, Burton, and Valentine traveled to Europe to investigate Umbrella by themselves. Redfield went ahead alone to Europe in late August, while Burton relocated his family to Canada. Valentine left the city under the pretense of leaving, but secretly returned to investigate the Umbrella's underground facility. Two months after the mansion incident, Raccoon City's water supply was contaminated with t-Virus, causing thousands to mutate into zombies. Umbrella took full advantage of the situation and sent in experimental B.O.W.s to test on the survivors. Among these was the Nemesis-T Type, sent into the city specifically to track down and eliminate all S.T.A.R.S. members. Valentine was trapped in her apartment until 27-28 September, contemplating suicide. Changing her mind, Valentine fled through the streets. She found Vickers injured by zombies, dying soon after when Nemesis tracked him down to the RPD entrance. In the S.T.A.R.S. Office, she intercepted a Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service radio signal from Cpl. Oliveira, and abandoned the police station to investigate. Valentine worked with Cpt. Mikhail Viktor, Sgt. Nikolai Zinoviev and Cpl. Oliveira reluctantly (though it became clear they were merely mercenaries sent out as sacrificial lambs) to repair a tram they were hiding in. Zinoviev presumed dead, the remaining three drove the team to St. Michael's Clock Tower, flagged by the UBCS as an evac point. Nemesis attacked the tram, and Viktor sacrificed himself with a grenade. The creature then destroyed the UBCS helicopter, and in another fight with the creature, Valentine was infected with a t-Virus strain unique to the Nemesis parasites. Valentine was unconscious for two days within the Clock Tower, guarded by Oliveira, until she woke up in the early hours of October 1. Oliveira went to the Raccoon General Hospital in search of treatments, and returned later with a vaccine the hospital staff worked on before they died. Searching through Raccoon Park, Valentine was confronted by Zinoviev, revealing that Umbrella was using the outbreak to test the effectiveness of the B.O.W.s, and the city would be destroyed. She fought the Nemesis again, activating an experimental rail cannon developed by the Delta Force, and left for dead after several shots from a Magnum. During the fight, Zinoviev had stolen an on-site helicopter while another was en route to the city, Valentine then escaped the city with Oliveira, and discovered Burton was looking for her.

By 2003, Valentine and Redfield had joined a private anti-biohazard service. Redfield and Valentine investigated a village in the Greater Caucasus, and found it had already fallen to a t-Virus outbreak, leaving a young child, Anna, as the only survivor. Many villagers were hiding in a grain silo, and ran into Wesker, who was also investigating the reports. He could not be apprehended due to the sudden arrival of Hunter δs. The villagers were in actuality involved with Umbrella and were storing B.O.W.s. Wesker seized Anna's locket and used it to open a safe in her house to get information on the company, although it was rigged to a bomb. Valentine and Redfield failed to stop Wesker's escape. A large operation was set with the rest of the private anti-biohazard service to capture the chemical plant. They caught the attention of Colonel Sergei Vladimir, former leader of UBCS, and were made to fight T-A.L.O.S., a computer-aided, armoured Tyrant. They failed to gain access to Umbrella's data, as Wesker had already wiped its hard drive. Umbrella nonetheless fell, however, when he decided to hand this data over to the US government, leading to the corporation's bankruptcy.

TFR/Season 8[edit | edit source]

An elite anti-terrorist operative investigating various crimes in Japan.

Valentine convinces her superior to let her take over the mission to place Kiryu Kazuma into protective custody to avert a yakuza war in case he dies while in Osaka, telling him she is only interested in the job to humble the condescending Tokyo Police. She prepares a detachment of police officers for the mission, who rush over once they receive reports that the peace talks between the Sonozaki delegation and the Soprano leadership have devolved into a violent brawl. Upon arrival, Valentine interrupts a fight between Kiryu and Joey LaRocca. Valentine drives Kiryu away from the scene and stops outside Sotenbori to explain the terms of the protective custody to him. However, she is interrupted by a sniper shot. When Valentine awakens, she and Kiryu discuss her shooting, with her ruling out the militant LaRocca Clan as the culprit. They learn the sniper who fired the intimidation shot was sent by Soprano Chief of HQ, and that Kiryu has a bounty placed on him; they leave Osaka to prevent further attacks.

Upon arrival in Coolsville, Valentine almost passes out from the strain of her wound. Kiryu takes her to the abandoned bar Jill Stingray worked in for recuperation. After feeling better, Valentine tells Kiryu that her obsession with the Sonozaki Family stems from her suspicion that they killed her birth parents, but wants to find out the truth in case they are still alive. Kiryu cautions her against digging up a buried past, as he had recently learned a dark truth about his own: his surrogate father Steven Sonozaki had killed his parents and raised him out of guilt afterwards. In spite of Kiryu's warnings, Valentine remains adamant to learn the truth. Later on, Valentine, Kiryu and Date are informed of the Matou Family and their prior operations during the late 1970's. Soon after, Valentine accompanies Kiryu in visiting The Cagist for footage which will exonerate Date, who had been framed for killing an impersonator of Sneed. There, the Florist is interrupted by a LaRocca assault led by Hayashi Hiroshi, which Valentine and Kiryu deal with. Returning to the bar, they learn from Kasai Tatsuyoshi that the Matou Family had supposedly been wiped out in 1980 after a massacre carried out by the Sonozaki Family in response to a turf war. The police turned a blind eye to the massacre, as they favored the Sonozaki. The following night, Valentine looks after Majima Goro, who repelled an attack and told Kiryu about the revolt at Sonozaki Estate. Afterwards, Valentine and Kiryu meet with Date, who learned that her superior was the one who allowed the Matou Massacre to happen.

Returning to Osaka, Valentine questions her superior, who justifies himself on the grounds that the police were unable to stop the Matou due to them using legal means to rise to power. After Valentine reprimands his stance, he says the massacre had three survivors, one of whom he helped go into hiding. Valentine wanders the streets of Sotenbori while thinking on what she'd learned and ends up stumbling on some punks mugging some women. She intervenes and sends the victims away, eventually joined by Kiryu, who'd come looking for her. After the punks are beaten, some police officers arrive. On a whim, Valentine takes Kiryu by the hand and asks him to run away from them with her. The two hit the town together and end the night by conversing about their lives while drinking beer on a rooftop. The following day, Valentine and Kiryu locate the survivor. With some persuasion, he details the fateful night's events, and that the boss' wife and her baby also escaped the massacre. As the survivor describes what transpired, Valentine realizes she might have been related to the family, and Kiryu realizes he was present when it all occurred. However, before he can elaborate, a group of Matou assassins burst in, looking to kill Valentine, Kiryu and the survivor. Kiryu and Valentine beat up the assassins, but one of them manages to fatally wound the survivor by throwing a knife into his gut, after which they all kill themselves by letting their worms consume them. Later on, Kiryu explains that he unintentionally caused the massacre by following Steven, who was trying to negotiate with the Matou Family Boss, causing a misunderstanding. He says she should kill him to avenge her parents, who may have died then. This infuriates Valentine, who reprimands his shallow thinking, after which she leaves. Hours later, Valentine learns from her mother that Kiryu was injured and went to Osaka Castle to rescue his adoptive son, Jackson. She arrives there and helps Kiryu escape alongside Jackson. She finds a note from her adoptive mother telling her that her father is still alive. Valentine leaves to gain answers.

Sayama takes Kiryu and Jackson to Coolsville, during which they are assaulted by a Matou convoy. After leaving Jackson in the abandoned bar, she learns the truth of her blood in the Millennium Tower. Valentine says Kiryu was right and that finding out the truth has hurt far more than she anticipated, leading to a fear of finding out more. Kiryu kisses her and tells her that nothing else she discovers will make her any less than she is. Valentine further discovers that her mother's baby from her marriage to the Matou Boss is Joey LaRocca, making him her half-brother. Stricken by the realization that she still has one last living family member, Valentine decides to try to approach Joey to talk him down from his violent mission to conquer Coolsville. Valentine is told by Kiryu about Joey challenging him. She tries to dissuade him, but she fails to stop Joey and Kiryu from dueling even after telling the former that they are related. After their duel, Matou Zouken arrives and reveals himself to be Joey's dark patron. Zouken's assault is stopped, and is killed by Joey chokeslaming him from the top of Coolsville Hills. Gravely injured, Kiryu and Joey commit to one last duel against Valentine's pleas, even though Zouken unveiled a bomb with its countdown activated. Valentine cradles a dying Joey after his defeat, who noted the resemblance to their mother and ponders if things would have been different had he gotten to know Valentine sooner. His last request is to see her smile, which she does for him, letting him die at least a little happy. After, Valentine turns to a battered Kiryu and tries to help him stand up so they can leave, however, he is too weak. Kiryu kisses her and they both wait for the bomb to go off. As it turns out, Zouken used a fake bomb, so both Kiryu and Valentine survive. The next month, Valentine accompanies Kiryu and Jackson as they visit the graves of their loved ones in the cemetery.
